A rare South African bred was offered for sale at the recently concluded Tattersalls July Sale in Newmarket, England.

Welsh Emperor, the 91 rated gelded son of Go Deputy and runner-up in the Gr.3 East Cape Derby, was bought for 78,000 Guineas by agent Oliver St Lawrence Bloodstock for Saudi Arabian interests and is expected to depart for the Middle East at the end of the month.

Consigned by Jane Chapple-Hyam Racing as agent for Hartley SA (Pty) Ltd, Welsh Emperor was trained in the Eastern Cape by Champion local trainer, Alan Greeff, who produced the Ascot Stud bred to win 4 races and 7 places from just 14 starts.

Rising five, he follows a number of high class racehorses to have emerged from the Eastern Cape racing district of Fairview racecourse such as Dubai World Cup placed horses, Lizard’s Desire and Paris Perfect and Gr.2 Al Maktoum Challenge winner and now sire, Bold Silvano.

A tough, sound gelding whose sire gets late maturing types, he is sure to make his presence felt in the desert Kingdom.
