Cascapedia trounces male rivals

LONDON NEWS STAKES (GRADE 3) - R250,000 - 1800m - Turffontein

1st R156,250, 2nd R25,000, 3rd R12,500 - January 7

Irish import Cascapadia continued her relentless progress through the stakes ranks when easily dismissing a high-class field of mainly male rivals.

Mike de Kock’s four-year-old hit top gear in mid straight under Anthony Delpech to move past pacesetter Amsterdam (Windrush) at the quarter mark. She immediately shot two lengths clear and powered home to score with complete authority from Triple Crown winner Abashiri (Go Deputy) and Gr.1 Summer Cup third Coral Fever (Judpot).

Successful in five of six starts, the rangy bay had landed the Gr.3 Yellowwood Handicap in her penultimate start and most recently romped home by almost four lengths over the course and distance.

“She was super impressive today,” remarked Delpech. “The pace played into my hands. She wants a really tough pace and will go even further. Everything we’ve asked of her, she is doing right.”

De Kock was equally as impressed and mentioned the possibility of supplementing his hugely talented charge to Kenilworth’s Gr.1 Sun Met on January 27.

“I thought she took a massive leap in form today,” he said. “There were a couple of really hard-knocking, decent horses in this race and she put them all to bed. I was really quite impressed. She is going to be worth her weight in gold at stud.”

Purchased at the 2015 Goffs Orby Sale, Cascapedia is by deceased Coolmore stallion High Chaparral and is out of Janoubi (Dansili), an unraced half-sister to multiple French graded stakes winner and sire Radevore (Generous). This is the family of champions Al Bahathri and Haafhd, as well as the Gr.1 winners Lord Shanakill, Heatseeker and Together Forever. - AvdB
