With his first local progeny set to debut at next month’s yearling sales, the victory of In Her Time (above) in the Gr.1 The Galaxy at Rosehill in Sydney could not have come at a more opportune moment for her South African-based sire Time Thief.

Placed three times previously at the elite level, the five-year-old mare proved too good in the 1100m dash, sweeping to the lead half way up the straight and never looking in danger of defeat to score by the best part of a length. Foot problems have restricted her to 18 starts, with four of her eight wins coming at Graded level. She will next take on reigning sprint champion Redzel in the $2.5 million TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on April 14.

On the track, Time Thief (Redoute’s Choice) proved himself a talented sophomore, winning the Listed Zeditave Stakes and placing at Gr.1 level when runner-up in the Caulfield Guineas and third in the Australia Stakes. He started his stud career in his birth country under the Darley banner in 2010 and in addition to In Her Time, has also sired the stakes winners Volkoff, Happy Cash and Rom Baro. He curently stands at Hassen Adams’ Nadeson Park in the Western Cape.

Time Thief’s female line is well known in this country as he is a three-parts brother in blood to Danehill’s champion speedster Laisserfaire, who carried Sabine Plattner’s silks to victory in two renewals of both the Gr.1 SA Filies Sprint and Cape Flying Championship, in addition to which she also defeated male rivals in the Computaform Sprint.

Time Thief has ten youngsters on offer at the CTS April Yearling Sale, while his sole lot on the BSA National Yearling Sale is a filly out of an own sister to Gr.1 winner Stratos. - AvdB
